Super Eagles reserve goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has been suspended for three months by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, over alleged involvement in match-fixing.
The club disclosed this in a statement issued by its Disciplinary Committee on Friday, explaining that the suspension is pending the outcome of an internal investigation into the allegations.
According to the club, no formal charges have been filed yet, while Tanzanian football authorities are also yet to release an official position on the matter.
The development follows a costly error by the Nigerian goalkeeper during Singida Black Stars’ Tanzanian league clash against Namungo FC on Thursday. With his side leading 1–0 deep into stoppage time, Obasogie failed to hold onto what appeared to be a routine free-kick delivery, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to score a late equaliser for the opposition.
In the same statement, the club announced a three-month suspension for Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho over alleged indiscipline and absenteeism, stressing the need for professionalism, accountability and respect among players and staff.
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema and has featured regularly in the Super Eagles camp. He was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team finished third, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
He becomes the second Nigerian goalkeeper in recent times to be linked with betting or match-fixing allegations, following Maduka Okoye’s two-month suspension in Italy in 2025 over a betting-related case.
