Dubai Airports Suspend Operations Amid Rising U.S.-Iran Tensions

In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) have indefinitely suspended all flight operations following a series of Iranian missile strikes across Gulf Arab states on Saturday.

Dubai Airports authorities announced the closure, citing passenger safety as the top priority amid the ongoing hostilities.

“Dubai Airports confirms that all flight operations at DXB and DWC are suspended until further notice. Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airlines for the latest updates on their flights,” the statement read.

The shutdown follows retaliatory Iranian missile barrages triggered by joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military targets earlier on Saturday morning. While UAE air defence systems intercepted several missiles, falling debris reportedly caused at least one civilian fatality in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed.

Neighbouring Qatar also reported successfully neutralising incoming projectiles, with interceptors visibly destroying at least one missile mid-air. In Kuwait, an Iranian missile strike damaged the runway at Ali Al Salem Air Base, which houses Italian air force personnel involved in regional surveillance missions.

The UAE Ministry of Defence described the attack as a “blatant” and “dangerous escalation” but affirmed that its air defences performed effectively and reserved the right to take proportionate action.

Passengers are advised to monitor official airline communications for further updates as authorities continue to assess the security situation.
