Group Flays Ben Kalu Over ‘False, Divisive’ Claims Against Abia Govt

A sociopolitical group, Abians for Sustenance and Good Governance (ASGG), has taken a swipe at the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu, over his recent allegations against the Abia State Government, describing them as “false, reckless, and capable of causing needless tension.”

Addressing a press conference in Umuahia on Thursday, the group’s leader, Comrade Daniel Ubani, said Kalu’s comments were driven by “selfish political motives” aimed at distracting the state government from its development agenda.

“We are not aligning with any camp, but with history and conscience,” Ubani stated. “The Abia State Government has demonstrated transparency and accountability in governance with verifiable results.”

Ubani cited the employment of over 5,000 teachers, the training of 1,359 young Abians in modern technology, and the reduction of the state’s debt profile from ₦138 billion to ₦66 billion as indicators of good governance.

He dismissed Kalu’s claim that Abia receives ₦38 billion monthly as “a product of imagination and political mischief,” adding that official records show that the state’s total revenue for the past seven months stood at ₦98.12 billion—an average of ₦14 billion monthly.

The ASGG leader urged politicians in the state to place peace and progress above personal ambition.
“Let political actors sheath their swords and allow the government to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy,” he said. “If they must play politics, let it not be at the expense of Abia’s peace and stability.”

Ubani also accused the Deputy Speaker of attempting to sow discord between Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Tinubu, describing the move as “unpatriotic and inflammatory.”

“A situation where supposed leaders deliberately stoke conflict between the state and the presidency for selfish gain should be condemned by all well-meaning Abians,” he added.

The group called on journalists to remain vigilant and resist being used as tools for political propaganda.

“As members of the fourth estate, you must stand firm in speaking truth to power and promoting the values of good governance,” Ubani charged.

The ASGG reiterated its commitment to sensitizing Abians on the need for transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership in the state.
