Fintiri: PDP Repositioning to Reclaim Power, Build United Front for 2027

Adamawa State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Planning Committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, has declared that the opposition party is undergoing a comprehensive rebuilding process aimed at restoring unity, discipline, and focus ahead of future elections.

Fintiri made this known in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Thursday after leading members of the PDP Convention Organising Committee on an inspection tour of the venue for the forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15.

The governor commended his Oyo counterpart, Seyi Makinde, for his commitment and readiness to host a successful event, noting that the party is determined to re-emerge as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Today, I led the PDP National Convention Organising Committee Executive to Ibadan to assess preparations for our forthcoming 2025 Convention,” Fintiri wrote on his X handle.

“Governor Makinde’s efforts reflect excellence and readiness. We’re building a stronger PDP—united, focused, and prepared to lead Nigeria forward.”

The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political force, has in recent months faced internal challenges and a string of defections by prominent members to rival parties.

In the past week, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri announced their defection to the APC. Rumours also suggest that Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas may soon join the ruling party.

Despite these setbacks, Fintiri maintained that the party’s reform efforts are on course, stressing that the ongoing reconciliation process will yield a more cohesive and electorally formidable PDP.

“The challenges are only temporary,” he said. “What matters is that we are reorganising and preparing for the task ahead.”

The Ibadan convention is expected to produce a new national leadership that will steer the party into the 2027 general elections, which many analysts see as a defining moment for the PDP’s political resurgence.
