At a meeting of the United Ex-Super Falcons Worldwide in Chicago, United States, the former players expressed concern that the government has yet to fulfil its pledge of $100,000, land allocations and other rewards for each player, one year after the team’s success.
Former Super Falcons player Patience Avre said the uncertainty surrounding the unfulfilled promises was affecting the players’ motivation as they prepare for the continental tournament.
She said many players had privately expressed concern but were reluctant to speak publicly for fear of losing their places in the team.
Avre also appealed to the Federal Government to improve the welfare of both past and present Super Falcons players, noting that many former internationals were never adequately rewarded despite their sacrifices for the country.
She recalled that members of D’Tigress received their promised cash rewards and housing after winning the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, expressing hope that the Super Falcons would also receive the incentives promised to them.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) had earlier attributed the delay in presenting the rewards to the postponement of the team’s camping programme ahead of the 2026 WAFCON.
