Tuchel Confident As England Face Argentina In World Cup Semi-Final

England manager Thomas Tuchel says he is not weighed down by history as the Three Lions prepare to face defending champions Argentina in Wednesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final.

Speaking ahead of the clash in Atlanta, Tuchel said his players are focused, motivated and eager to reach England’s first World Cup final in 60 years.

“I don’t feel a burden. We feel the tension and will be nervous but that is normal,” he said.

“What I like is that I feel the players are really competitive, hungry and excited to play this match.”

The semi-final will mark the first World Cup meeting between England and Lionel Messi, who, at 39, has scored eight goals to help Argentina reach the last four.

England will rely on Jude Bellingham and captain Harry Kane, who have each scored six goals at the tournament.

The two nations have met five times previously at the World Cup, including Argentina’s famous 2-1 victory in 1986, featuring Diego Maradona’s controversial “Hand of God” goal.

Despite the rivalry, Tuchel said his team would concentrate on its own performance rather than past encounters.

“We know how big the obstacle is, but we are ready for it,” he said.

The England coach also confirmed that midfielder Declan Rice is fit after recovering from illness, while defender Jarell Quansah will miss the match through suspension.

Tuchel described Argentina as an experienced tournament side but expressed confidence that England would produce its best performance when it matters most.
