The Nigerian military says 76 commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered following intensified counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

The spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, attributing the development to sustained air and ground offensives targeting terrorist strongholds.

According to the military, the commanders abandoned their camps and surrendered as a result of persistent military pressure supported by intelligence-led operations.

“Several senior ISWAP figures are among those who surrendered and are currently in a secure location undergoing profiling, debriefing and other procedures in line with established operational protocols,” the statement said.

The military said the latest surrender highlights the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their command and logistics structures, and limit their operational capabilities.

It added that the surrender of the commanders, alongside other fighters and their families, reflects a continued decline in ISWAP’s operational strength and morale.
