2026 World Cup: Mbappé surpasses Klose, moves ahead of Messi in Golden Boot race
France captain Kylian Mbappé has overtaken Germany legend Miroslav Klose on the FIFA World Cup all-time goalscoring chart after scoring twice in France’s 3-0 victory over Sweden.
The brace helped France secure qualification for the Round of 16 and took Mbappé’s tally at the 2026 tournament to six goals and two assists.
With six goals, Mbappé now leads the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who also has six goals but is yet to register an assist.
Both Messi and Mbappé have surpassed Klose’s previous World Cup scoring record during the ongoing tournament.
