Police rescue kidnap victim from forest in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim from a forest bordering the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala communities in Owerri West Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and improve security.

According to Okoye, the operation was led on Saturday by the Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, in collaboration with local vigilance operatives, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police through the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of the South-East Zone.

He said the operation was aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens.

During the operation, police rescued an injured kidnap victim, Mr. Chinonaobi Uchegbulam of Ubaha Orodo, from the forest.

The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility, where he is receiving treatment and is said to be responding positively.

Okoye said the Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their courage, commitment and professionalism.

He reiterated the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations and ensure kidnappers and other violent criminals have no safe haven in the state.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency line, 0803 477 3600, while calling for continued public cooperation in the fight against crime.
