Osun approves ₦204m death benefits for families of deceased civil servants

Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the payment of ₦204.3 million in death benefits to the families of civil servants who died while in active service in Osun State.

The cheques were presented to beneficiaries in Osogbo by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, on behalf of the governor.

According to the state government, the amount comprises ₦125.6 million for beneficiaries at the state level and ₦78.6 million for beneficiaries at the local government level.

Adeleke said the payment reflects his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners despite prevailing financial challenges.

“My commitment to workers’ and pensioners’ welfare remains unshaken despite the financial challenges facing the state,” the governor said.

He noted that prioritising the welfare of workers and retirees remains a key pillar of his administration’s Five-Point Action Plan.

Adeleke disclosed that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has paid a total of ₦882.8 million in death benefits to 184 beneficiaries across the state public service.

The governor also revealed that the state had released ₦1.87 billion under the Personal Accident Insurance Scheme to settle outstanding claims involving 563 beneficiaries for the period between September 2013 and August 2023.

According to him, the Group Life Assurance Policy under the Contributory Pension Scheme was designed to provide financial support to the families of workers who die while in service.

“The Group Life Assurance Policy under the Contributory Pension Scheme is designed to cater for death-in-service benefits for Osun State workers,” he said.

Adeleke assured workers and pensioners that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and ensure the prompt payment of legitimate entitlements.
