The United States Department of State has announced the release of 13 million dollars in emergency assistance following the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

The development was disclosed in a statement posted on the official account of the U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs.

According to the statement, the Department of State activated an emergency response plan within 48 hours of the outbreak and immediately mobilised the funds to support response efforts in the affected countries.

The statement added that the U.S. government is also leveraging previous investments in humanitarian support channels coordinated through the United Nations system to facilitate the rapid deployment of additional assistance.

It noted that the intervention is aimed at strengthening outbreak response coordination and humanitarian support efforts.

“American leadership remains indispensable in confronting global health threats,” the statement read.
