Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he did not purchase the African Democratic Congress presidential nomination form to become a vice-presidential candidate.

Amaechi made the statement on Monday during an interview on Trust TV while speaking on the contest for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Rivers State governor said discussions about him stepping down to become a running mate should stop, insisting that he joined the race to contest for the presidency.

“Please stop that. I didn’t buy the ADC presidential ticket to become Vice President,” Amaechi said.

Speaking on the possibility of consensus among aspirants, Amaechi stated that the party should only adopt consensus if all contestants agree to it.

He said where consensus fails, the party should allow all aspirants to test their popularity through a transparent primary election.

“If the ADC wants a consensus, then there should be a meeting and if the aspirants don’t agree, everyone would go to the primaries,” he added.

Amaechi had earlier challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to participate in party primaries, following Atiku’s reported position against zoning the presidency.
