FG Panel Projects Aviation Fuel Price at N1,760–N2,037/Litre

The Federal Government has projected that aviation fuel prices may range between N1,760 and N2,037 per litre, following stakeholder engagements aimed at tackling supply constraints and rising costs in the sector.

The projection was part of resolutions reached after a high-level meeting convened by the Minister of Aviation and Airspace Management on April 22 and 23, 2026, involving key players across the aviation and petroleum value chain.

Participants included officials from the Ministries of Aviation and Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), airline operators and fuel marketers.

A technical committee subsequently set up by the NMDPRA on April 24 recommended an indicative price range of N1,760 to N1,988 per litre in Lagos, and N1,809 to N2,037 per litre in Abuja, based on Platts average rates recorded between April 17 and 23.

The committee, however, warned that prices could fluctuate outside the band due to market volatility, geopolitical factors and varying operational costs.

To stabilise supply, the panel advised that marketers be directed to sell directly to airline operators within the period under review. It also called for regulatory intervention to reassess pricing components, including premium adjustments and refinery cost variations.

In addition, the committee recommended stronger coordination between the NMDPRA, FAAN and NCAA to streamline airside operations, including the validation of distributors with adequate infrastructure and a possible reduction in the number of operators.

On sectoral debts, the Ministry of Aviation was urged to facilitate dialogue between airline operators and marketers to resolve outstanding obligations, while marketers were encouraged to consider a 30-day credit facility to ease financial pressure on airlines.

The panel also proposed the inclusion of aviation fuel in the Federal Government’s naira-for-crude initiative as part of broader efforts to ensure price stability and sustainable supply.
