A fresh political controversy has erupted following claims by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alleging that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is aggressively positioning himself for a vice-presidential slot ahead of future political permutations.

Olayinka further accused the governor of resorting to threats of violence after allegedly losing political influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Olayinka described Makinde as “politically displaced,” alleging that the governor’s recent actions were driven by frustration over unmet ambitions within the party.

He warned against any form of incitement, noting the grave implications of such statements, particularly from a sitting governor.

According to him, Makinde’s alleged desperation followed his inability to secure full control of the PDP structure for what he termed a “premature vice-presidential ambition.”

Olayinka also raised several other allegations, including claims that the governor failed in moves relating to traditional leadership matters in Ibadan, as well as intra-party political contests in Oyo State.

He further questioned the handling of funds reportedly allocated for victims of the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan, alleging that accountability remains unclear.

“Now, he is allegedly resorting to threats because he has lost out politically and is seeking relevance elsewhere,” Olayinka stated, while cautioning against any actions that could trigger unrest.

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde has not issued an official response to the allegations.
