Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, or any other opposition candidate defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kalu insisted that the opposition remains too weak to pose any real challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he described as “a moving train.”
According to him, President Tinubu would coast to victory in what he described as a free and fair contest.

“They cannot defeat President Tinubu in a free and fair election. The opposition is weak, while the APC remains a strong political structure,” Kalu said.

The former Abia State governor also claimed that the APC currently enjoys an estimated 15 million solid votes nationwide.

His comment comes amid ongoing political realignments within the opposition, where Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP) have recently been linked to a broader opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu of the APC polled over eight million votes to emerge winner, while Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso collectively secured over 14 million votes.

Political observers note that the emerging opposition alliance is already generating concern within ruling party circles ahead of the 2027 general elections.
