The Adamawa State Government has commenced the evacuation of its indigenes studying at the University of Jos following renewed insecurity in Plateau State.

The move comes after a series of attacks in Jos, which affected residents and led to the suspension of academic activities by the university authorities.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the evacuation is being carried out under tight security, with police escorts deployed to ensure the safe relocation of students.

He described the action as a precautionary measure aimed at protecting the lives of Adamawa students amid the uncertain security situation.

The latest incident occurred on Friday night in Nyango Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly killed three people after attacking the community.

The recent wave of violence in Jos began on March 29, 2026, during Palm Sunday, when gunmen opened fire on residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, leaving dozens dead and several others injured.
