President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted his Chadian counterpart, President Idriss Déby, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused on deepening cooperation in key areas including regional security, trade, and economic development, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The high-level engagement comes amid ongoing efforts by Nigeria and Chad to reinforce collaboration within the Lake Chad Basin, particularly in tackling insurgency and cross-border threats.

Both countries, regarded as critical stakeholders in the region, have maintained close coordination in addressing security challenges affecting the basin.

Thursday’s meeting also took place shortly before President Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Jos, Plateau State, where he is expected to commiserate with victims of recent attacks.

Déby’s visit highlights the enduring diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Chad, as well as a shared commitment to strengthening strategic and multilateral cooperation in the region.
