Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has downplayed the growing influence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the opposition party as no real threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Sule made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, insisting that a party controlling 31 states has little reason to be concerned about an opposition that does not govern a single state.

“At one point, the narrative was that the PDP is the strongest opposition. Now it is the ADC. The goalposts keep moving, but there is no cause for alarm. A party controlling 31 states cannot be scared of a party that doesn’t control even one,” Sule said.

Turning to the pressing issue of insecurity, which has been a central theme in the ADC’s criticism of the Tinubu administration, the governor acknowledged the severity of the challenge but emphasized the potential of state policing as a sustainable solution.

He revealed that during a recent National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, 35 out of 37 state governors endorsed the state policing initiative. “We all agreed to proceed. The process involves law amendments at both the National and State Assembly levels, but every state, including Nasarawa, believes strongly in this approach,” he added.

Despite APC’s dominance, the ADC continues to attract high-profile defections from across the political spectrum, positioning itself as a leading opposition platform in the run-up to 2027.
