President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State, following a renewed wave of terrorist attacks in the region.

The directive was contained in a statement personally signed by the President on Tuesday, in response to multiple bombings on Monday that reportedly killed at least 23 people.

The attacks, suspected to have been carried out by Boko Haram insurgents, have heightened security concerns in the North-East.

Tinubu, who commiserated with the people of Borno State, assured Nigerians that the military remains firmly in control of the counter-insurgency efforts.

He disclosed that he had recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies during a high-level meeting with security and intelligence chiefs.

According to him, the reinforcements are already being deployed to strengthen ongoing operations.

“Additionally, I have directed the service chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” the President said.

The latest directive signals an escalation in the Federal Government’s response to the resurgence of attacks in Borno, a state that has remained the epicentre of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency.
