The endorsement was announced during a gathering in Owerri, Imo State, where the President of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, said councillors nationwide would mobilise grassroots support for the president.
Nwikegwu stated that the country’s 8,809 councillors across the 774 local government areas are positioned to influence voters at the grassroots level through the 176,836 polling units nationwide.
According to him, the partnership between the councillors and the City Boys Movement represents a significant political mobilisation ahead of the next presidential election.
“The figures are staggering. This is a movement poised to sweep across the nation. Any agenda that seeks to undermine this will be rendered a futile attempt to obstruct progress,” he said.
The forum president described councillors as the closest elected representatives to the people, adding that they would serve as a key mobilising force for political participation at the grassroots.
He also praised the Tinubu administration, citing the restoration of local government autonomy, social intervention programmes and renewed focus on agriculture and rural development as reasons for supporting the president.
Nwikegwu further commended Seyi Tinubu, describing his leadership of the City Boys Movement as a platform engaging young people and grassroots communities.
He added that the South-East region was witnessing growing interest in the movement, signalling possible shifts in political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
