Four Suspected Bandits Arrested Near Akure Airport

Security operatives have arrested four suspected bandits around the premises of Akure Airport following a joint security operation coordinated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

FAAN, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended after security personnel received an alert over the presence of suspicious individuals behind the airport’s perimeter fence in the direction of Eleyewo community.

According to the agency, a combined team of Aviation Security personnel, officers of the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside local security outfits, immediately moved to the area for a coordinated search.

FAAN said several of the suspects attempted to escape on sighting the operatives, but four were successfully arrested during the operation.

The agency added that the suspects have been handed over to the police for further interrogation and investigation.

It commended the swift collaboration among aviation security officials, security agencies, Amotekun Corps, and community vigilantes, noting that the operation reflects growing synergy in protecting critical national assets.

FAAN further stated that the development has reinforced the need for stronger airport perimeter security, adding that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to install modern fencing and upgrade security infrastructure across airports nationwide.

The authority reassured passengers and residents around airport communities of its commitment to maintaining safety and preventing unlawful access to airport facilities.
