US Warns Of Possible Terror Threat To Embassy, American Schools In Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert warning of a potential terrorist threat targeting U.S. diplomatic facilities and American-affiliated schools in the country.

In a notice released Monday, the embassy said the alert was issued to inform U.S. citizens in Nigeria of a possible security risk and urged them to take extra precautions when visiting American diplomatic missions and institutions linked to the United States.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens of a possible terrorist threat against U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria,” the advisory stated.

The embassy advised its citizens to remain vigilant when travelling to the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. It recommended varying travel routes and times, staying alert to surroundings and avoiding predictable routines.

Americans were also urged to maintain a low profile, review personal security plans with their families, stay alert in public places and avoid large gatherings or demonstrations.

Other safety measures highlighted in the advisory include keeping mobile phones fully charged in case of emergencies and familiarising themselves with emergency exits when entering buildings.

Despite the warning, the embassy noted that its consular sections in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos remain open.

It advised U.S. citizens to continue monitoring official embassy platforms for updates and provided contact channels for those who may require assistance or additional information regarding the security situation.
