Turaki-led PDP Denies Congress Plans in South West – Zonal Official
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West has denied circulating reports that state congresses are scheduled in the zone.
Sanya Atofarati, PDP Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, described the claims as “false and mischievous” and urged party members and the public to disregard them. “At no time has the party approved or announced any state congress in the South West,” he said in a statement issued Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Atofarati noted that most South West states already have duly elected and legally constituted state executives, with the exception of Osun State, where a Caretaker Committee was validly appointed by the National Working Committee in January 2026.
The statement comes amid a leadership crisis that split the party into two factions: one led by Samuel Anyanwu and the other by Taminu Turaki SAN. Atofarati accused expelled individuals of circulating a “sham timetable” to sow confusion, asserting that their attempts “will fail.”
He reaffirmed that under Turaki’s leadership, the PDP remains focused on internal democracy, discipline, and unity. Party members were encouraged to participate actively in the ongoing membership registration and validation exercise to strengthen structures ahead of future elections.
