Rivers Assembly Invites Fubara’s Commissioner-Nominees for Screening
The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially invited nine commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara for screening and confirmation to serve in the State Executive Council.
The submission comes roughly three weeks after Fubara sacked eight commissioners who were unaffected by the Supreme Court ruling recognising Martin Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker. The governor also relieved all his Special Advisers of their appointments.
A special government announcement dated March 3, signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, instructed the nominees to submit forty sets of their CVs, photocopies of credentials, and evidence of tax compliance.
The nominees are: Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Mr Lekue Kenneth, Otonye Amachree, Amairigha Edward Hart.
None of the recently sacked commissioners were included in this list.
The development follows a political reconciliation between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the FCT, mediated by President Bola Tinubu, who also intervened to halt impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy.
With Rivers State comprising 23 local government areas, more commissioner-nominees are expected in the coming weeks.
