Mexico Deploys 2,500 Troops After Drug Lord Killed – Defence Official

Mexico has deployed 2,500 additional troops to its western region following the killing of a top drug lord in a military operation, Defence Secretary Ricardo Trevilla said on Monday.
Trevilla disclosed at a press conference that about 7,000 troops were already stationed in Jalisco State, but reinforcements were being sent to strengthen security in areas of operation linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The cartel had been led by Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera until he was killed on Sunday, according to authorities.
Oseguera’s death reportedly triggered violent reprisals by cartel members across parts of the country, including the torching of vehicles and businesses, as well as road blockades.
The government said the additional deployment is aimed at restoring order and preventing further escalation of violence in the affected areas.
