In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor said Shekarau’s return would strengthen the APC’s structure and influence ahead of future elections.
According to the statement, a date will be announced in consultation with the party’s national leadership for Shekarau’s formal reception into the APC.
“The party in Kano continues to witness growing support and consolidation, positioning itself as the most dominant political force in the state,” Yusuf said.
He added that the APC is well-positioned to win elective positions in upcoming polls, citing unity and strategic alignment among members.
The governor also urged party faithful to remain committed to grassroots mobilisation as preparations for future contests intensify.
Shekarau’s return follows his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he confirmed in a letter dated April 19, 2026.
The former governor said his decision came after extensive consultations within his political group as part of a broader realignment.
