Kwara Insecurity Escalates: Oluwatosin Babatunde Demands FG Declare Emergency, Restore Amotekun

Oluwatosin Babatunde, a leading advocate for good governance and human rights, has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Kwara State following the gruesome massacre in Kaima Local Government Area.

Speaking on a radio program in Ikirun,Osun State, closely monitored by Patriotic Insights News, Babatunde described the attack as “a shocking assault on peace and human dignity,” warning that the failure to act could plunge Kwara into deeper insecurity.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Kwara, which shares a boundary with Osun State, he warned that border communities are particularly vulnerable to spillover attacks if decisive action is not taken. “Criminals do not respect borders. The insecurity in Kwara could easily spread to neighboring Osun if we continue to delay,” he cautioned.

Babatunde also called for the immediate restoration of the Osun State Amotekun Corps, describing the regional security outfit as “vital in protecting lives and deterring criminal activities at the grassroots.” He noted that community-based security structures complement federal efforts and are critical in areas where government presence is limited.

“This is not the time for empty promises or half-hearted measures. The Federal Government must act now to safeguard citizens and restore peace,” he stressed.

The call comes amid rising insecurity across several Nigerian states, where attacks by bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements have become increasingly frequent. Security analysts have repeatedly stressed the importance of proactive measures, inter-state collaboration, and strong local policing to address the crisis.

Babatunde’s appeal also echoes previous calls for strengthening regional security frameworks, particularly Amotekun, which has faced suspensions and operational restrictions despite proving effective in curbing crime at the community level.
