2027 Elections: INEC Says “We Are Ready” Despite Electoral Act Delays

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its preparedness for the 2027 general elections, even as the amended Electoral Act awaits passage in the National Assembly.
The electoral body said it has completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities, stressing that some timelines may be adjusted depending on when the law is finally amended.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this known on Wednesday during an engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja, stating that the Commission remains committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections.
“Although we have submitted our recommendations to the National Assembly, the timing of the amended Electoral Act may affect certain aspects of the schedule. Until it is passed, we will continue to carry out our responsibilities under the current legal framework,” Amupitan said.
He assured Nigerians that INEC is taking all necessary measures to ensure a smooth electoral process and urged stakeholders to continue supporting the Commission in its preparations for the 2027 elections.
Further details of the timetable and activities are expected to be released once the legislative process concludes.
