Saraki Sends PDP Delegation to Support Kwara Communities Hit by Bandits

Former Senate President and two-time Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has dispatched a high-powered delegation to communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara South Senatorial District affected by repeated bandit attacks.
The delegation, comprising senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), visited 19 communities that have suffered violent raids, resulting in deaths and displacement of residents. Many of these communities have been partially deserted due to persistent insecurity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the leader of the delegation and Kwara PDP State Treasurer, Rev. COS Fawenu, said the visit marked the fourth phase of Saraki’s intervention efforts since 2025 to support victims of insecurity across Kwara North and South.
The delegation held discussions with residents and traditional rulers, offering comfort and financial assistance to aid recovery. Among the first stops was the palace of the Oba of Agbeku, His Royal Highness Oba Abdulazeez Shola Agboola Adeshina (Oba Idera II), where condolences were extended over repeated bandit attacks.
Rev. Fawenu said Saraki opted not to lead the delegation personally to avoid political misinterpretation of the visit. He commended the monarch for staying in the community despite security threats and prayed for lasting peace.
The delegation also visited the family of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, who was abducted along with his son, Olaolu, on December 31, 2025. The Queen reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. Saraki’s team expressed gratitude for Olaolu’s safe return and the Queen’s recovery, providing financial support to assist the family.
At Bayagan-Ile in Omupo District, the delegation celebrated with the community over the release of the Ojibara of Bayagan-Ile, Oba Kamiludeen Salami, held captive for 25 days. Cash donations were also made to support local recovery efforts.
Other communities visited included Afin-Ileere, Sagbe, Labaka Oja, Oroago, Adanla, Owa Kajola, Oreke Oke-Igbo, Oreke, Alabe, Bankole, Budo-Idowu, Ologomo, Ganmu Alheri-Ilere, Aiyetoro, Alabe Idera, and Oloruntele.
Members of the delegation included Dr. W.W. Memudu, PDP Chairman of Ifelodun LGA; former Commissioner Wasiu Odewale; Elder Wale Olawomo; Alhaji Abdulrasaq Zubairu, immediate-past PDP chairman of Ifelodun; youth leader Segun Adwuyi; and Kwara PDP State Publicity Secretary Olusegun Olusola Adewara.
Reacting to the gesture, community leaders and monarchs described Saraki’s intervention as a demonstration of leadership that transcends political office, providing hope and relief to affected communities.
