The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will soon make public the details of the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, under the mediation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made the disclosure on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
President Tinubu had, in June, intervened to broker peace between Wike and Fubara in a bid to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state. However, the former Rivers governor accused Fubara of breaching the terms of the agreement, warning that the full details would soon be revealed.
“Very soon, we will let Nigerians know what we agreed upon before Mr President,” Wike said.
He cautioned the people of Tai against aligning with political actors who fail to honour agreements, stressing that integrity and trustworthiness should guide political relationships.
Wike also declared that Rivers people were politically prepared ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that money would not determine electoral outcomes in the state.
“In Rivers, the will of the people will prevail. Elections cannot be bought with money,” he said.
The FCT minister explained that his visit was not politically motivated but meant to appreciate the people of Tai for their support for him and President Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
“It was a tough contest in 2023. You stood by us, took a risk, and God granted us victory. Today, that decision has brought dividends, including the establishment of a federal university in Tai and several other benefits,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Barry Npigi (APC–Rivers South-East) thanked President Tinubu and Wike for their support to the senatorial district, noting that the area was experiencing unprecedented development.
Npigi pledged continued loyalty, describing the Tinubu administration as one committed to justice, equity and fairness.
Also speaking, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Tai Constituency, Mr Bernard Nbar, assured Wike of the unwavering support of his constituents.
“You can always count on the Tai people. We are known for keeping our word,” Nbar said.
Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Mbakpone Okpe, described Wike’s directive to support Tinubu in the 2023 elections as a blessing, noting that the council had benefited from appointments, infrastructure projects, empowerment programmes and other dividends of democracy.
Okpe added that the people of Tai were ready to support President Tinubu for a second term.
“For these reasons and more, we are prepared to mobilise massively for Mr President and whoever you endorse,” he said.
