The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) claim that it is poised to take over governance in the state, describing the opposition party’s ambition as “a political illusion lacking substance.”
APC spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Monday, said the ADC lacked the organisational capacity, statewide structure and voter appeal required to challenge the ruling party in Lagos.
Oladejo stated that Lagos, with its complex political landscape and highly informed electorate, cannot be “a playground for political apprentices who mistake publicity stunts for strategy.”
He said: “Let it be clear: Lagos is neither up for grabs nor available for emergency parties seeking attention through sensational declarations. The ADC’s latest posturing amounts to inflating a political balloon with the hot air of wishful thinking.”
According to him, the ADC has failed to demonstrate any presence across the state, adding that it struggles to conduct basic ward meetings, yet talks about leading Nigeria’s most sophisticated electorate.
“In 2023 and even before then, the ADC could barely fill a bus stop with its entire membership,” he said. “How does a party with no structures, no credible candidates, no ideas and no electoral footprint hope to overrun a state of over 20 million people?”
The APC spokesman advised the ADC to concentrate on its internal organisation rather than making grand claims about winning Lagos.
“They should try achieving quorum at their next meeting before dreaming about Alausa,” he added.
Oladejo reaffirmed that Lagos has enjoyed decades of stability, vision and continuity under successive APC-led administrations, insisting that the ruling party remains firmly positioned to retain power.
