Bandits on Monday evening invaded Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, attempting to abduct residents before being repelled by local vigilantes.
A reliable community source told Patriotic Insights News that the attackers met stiff resistance, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire. In the process, an elderly woman was shot in the leg.
The source added that residents quickly issued a distress call to the state government, prompting the deployment of soldiers from nearby Eruku. Urgent alerts also circulated on social media, calling on security agencies — particularly the Nigerian Army — to intervene.
According to the source, none of the vigilantes sustained fatal injuries as their protective gear deflected the bullets. While the bandits eventually retreated, the community remained gripped by fear.
Isapa lies about five kilometres from Eruku, where three persons were killed and 38 worshippers abducted during a church attack last Tuesday.
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to confirm the latest incident.
