Oshiomhole: Atiku Couldn’t Fix PDP, So He Can’t Fix Nigeria

Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo North and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken a swipe at ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the former PDP leader lacks the capacity to govern Nigeria.

Oshiomhole, who spoke on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Monday, mocked Atiku’s move to the ADC just hours after the former vice-president publicly displayed his new party membership card.

According to him, Atiku’s inability to stabilise or rebuild the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite his long-standing influence shows he lacks the leadership needed to steer the country.

“If Atiku as a former vice-president under the PDP could not fix the party, could not reconstruct it, and could not provide leadership despite the influence he has built, how can he claim he can fix Nigeria?” Oshiomhole queried.

He further recalled that Atiku once left the APC after he failed to secure its presidential ticket, arguing that the former vice-president’s political movements reveal a pattern of contest-driven loyalty rather than commitment to institution-building.

“He left APC because he lost the ticket. He went back to PDP for the purpose of contesting. But he still couldn’t build the PDP that made him vice-president,” he said.

Atiku resigned from the PDP in July after months of internal wrangling, culminating in his official entry into the ADC, now promoted as a coalition platform for opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections
