The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over what it described as a disturbing pattern of “internal compromise” fuelling the resurgence of terrorist activities across the country.
In a strongly worded statement issued yesterday, the Lagos State chapter of the ruling party alleged that the sophistication and precision of recent attacks suggest the involvement of actors embedded within Nigeria’s security and political establishments.
APC spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, said the frequency of intelligence breaches, weakening of security checkpoints shortly before assaults, and the coordinated nature of the strikes were “too systematic to be coincidental”.
According to him, the manner in which terrorists have targeted soft locations in recent weeks points unmistakably to the presence of individuals with access to privileged security information.
> “There is no mystery about how terrorists penetrate fortified areas despite our advanced surveillance capabilities. What we are witnessing is classic internal sabotage,” Oladejo declared.
The party accused unnamed political figures of amplifying insurgent narratives through the circulation of exaggerated casualty figures and panic-inducing claims, thereby undermining national unity and aiding the agenda of “foreign interests attempting to destabilise Nigeria”.
Oladejo further linked the sudden spike in attacks to what he described as “external provocations”, noting that the assaults intensified shortly after comments credited to U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria’s security situation.
> “Criminal gangs do not grow capacity overnight because of offhand foreign remarks. What emboldens them is the reinforcement they receive from saboteurs within,” he added.
Despite the alleged betrayals, the APC reaffirmed its confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a leader who remains resolute in the face of adversity. The party also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for what it called their courage and resilience “even amid the treachery of a few bad eggs”.
Oladejo issued a stern warning to individuals purportedly undermining national security, insisting that their identities and networks would soon be uncovered.
> “Your game is up. Your betrayal stands recorded. Nigeria will not fall to satisfy the fantasies of failed politicians, desperate collaborators, or foreign agents playing imperial games,” he said.
The ruling party maintained that the government remains unwavering in its determination to crush terrorism, insisting that the ongoing battle for national stability is “non-negotiable”.
The renewed debate over internal complicity comes amid a wave of high-profile attacks across the country.
Last week, over 24 schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi State when gunmen invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. The vice principal, who reportedly attempted to shield the students, was killed during the raid.
In Kwara State, bandits struck Eruku town in Ekiti Local Government Area, launching simultaneous assaults on a church and commuters along the Ilorin–Kabba Road. At least 38 worshippers were reportedly kidnapped.
The most devastating incident occurred on Friday when armed men stormed St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State’s Papiri community, whisking away 215 pupils and 12 teachers, according to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The attacks happened days after the Kebbi State Government convened a security summit in Birnin Kebbi, raising fresh concerns about the country’s intelligence and operational preparedness.
