Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Ayodele Fayose, on Monday urged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to disregard attacks on social media and political blackmail, describing them as the handiwork of “blackmailers and players of morbid politics.”
Fayose, speaking at the commissioning of the 14-kilometre Igbara Odo-Ikogosi road, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Oyebanji’s administration, also called on the governor to forgive betrayers exposed during the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary, noting that such developments are a normal feature of political life.
Addressing a large crowd at the ceremony, Fayose commended the governor for fostering unity among Ekiti leaders and citizens across party lines. He described Oyebanji as a leader with exceptional political acumen, governance skills, and the ability to manage diverse interests.
“I am not here to praise you, but to celebrate with you. We are witnessing unity of purpose among leaders and the people of Ekiti. Don’t be bothered by blackmailers or negative narratives on the internet. The people of Ekiti are not swayed by their rantings. Your works speak for themselves,” Fayose said.
Predicting victory for Oyebanji in the 2026 governorship election, Fayose added: “In my mind, we have already concluded the voting. Those opposing you will be disgraced. We must unite, not divide. I have no apology supporting you, and I will continue to do so to ensure collective success for Ekiti.”
Governor Oyebanji, while inspecting the commissioned road, praised the contractor and supervising authorities for delivering quality work promptly. He highlighted the role of the federal economic reforms led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in enabling his administration’s infrastructural projects.
He also urged the Igbara Odo and Ikogosi communities to resolve their ongoing land dispute, stressing that the government was prepared to develop the corridor if the matter was settled. “This is the time to resolve the issue once and for all. Our people cannot continue to farm in fear of attacks,” he appealed.
The Arajaka of Igbara Odo, Oba Edward Jayeola, expressed gratitude to the governor for the road, urging his community to support Oyebanji’s reelection bid and to safeguard the facility.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo, House of Assembly members, state executive council members, traders, and driver unions.
