ADC Blames Tinubu Administration for Insecurity, Urges Overhaul of National Security

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s designation of the country as a “country of particular concern” on October 31, 2025.

In a statement today, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the designation as a reminder of the global concern for human rights and the sanctity of human life. He said the loss of nearly 15,000 lives since 2023 under the Tinubu administration underscores a national security crisis that cuts across all regions, tribes, and religions.

Abdullahi said: “Entire communities have been sacked, worshippers slaughtered, and bandits control large territories, levying taxes on citizens with impunity. Boko Haram, once declared technically degraded, is regaining strength while other terror groups openly claim attacks on Nigerian soil.”

He noted that the insecurity extends beyond the North, highlighting a recent attack in Kwara State by the Al-Qaeda affiliate JNIM, stressing that the crisis is an existential threat to all Nigerians.

The ADC also criticized the Tinubu administration for diplomatic failures, including the failure to appoint ambassadors to key countries more than two years into office, and for a foreign policy described as personal rather than national. Abdullahi lamented Nigeria’s declining role in regional leadership, citing the fracturing of ECOWAS under the current government.

Calling for urgent reforms, the party recommended a full overhaul of the national security apparatus, appointment of qualified ambassadors, a reset of foreign policy, and urgent economic and social welfare reforms. The party urged world leaders to support Nigeria’s democratic growth rather than consider military intervention.

“Nigeria is not beyond saving, but time is running out. We must act now with courage, clarity, and a commitment to protect the lives and dignity of every Nigerian,” Abdullahi concluded.
