JAMB to varsities: Begin 2025 admission now — deadline won’t shift

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a fresh warning to public universities that are yet to commence the 2025 admission process, insisting that the October 31 deadline remains sacrosanct.

In a statement on Friday, the examination body recalled that the resolutions of the 2025 policy meeting on admissions — chaired by Education Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa — mandated all public universities to submit their first-choice admission recommendations on CAPS not later than September 30.

Private universities were, however, given up to October 31 to upload their lists, while polytechnics and colleges of education are expected to conclude admissions on or before December 31.

JAMB lamented that, despite the clear timelines, some public universities have “not submitted a single name” on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

The affected institutions, according to the board, include: Northwest University, Kano; Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil; University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Benue State University, Makurdi; Abdulkadir Kure University; Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna; Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo; and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua.

The board warned that failure to comply will lead to automatic re-assignment of unprocessed candidates to the next available tier of institutions.

“These timelines are not arbitrary. They were designed to restore sanity to the academic calendar and ensure a seamless admission process across all tiers,” the statement read.

JAMB urged the defaulting institutions to act without delay, saying the board will no longer entertain excuses.
