Niger Assembly Pledges Commitment to Peace, Seeks Stakeholders’ Input on Hisbah Board Bill

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has reassured stakeholders of the House’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace, unity, and moral order in the state through effective legislation.

The assurance came during a public hearing on a proposed bill to establish the Niger State Hisbah Board. The event was organised by the House Joint Committee on Religious Affairs and Judiciary and Legal Matters to solicit contributions from key stakeholders on the bill.

Sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Abubakar (Ustaz), representing Chanchaga Constituency, the bill seeks to promote Islamic values, provide moral counselling, and facilitate the reconciliation of civil disputes in the state.

Speaking through Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Education and member representing Tafa Constituency, Sarkin-Daji commended participants for their presence and contributions, describing the public hearing as a critical step in the legislative process.

He also highlighted the House’s achievements since its inauguration in 2023, including the passage of laws designed to benefit the populace and ensure societal order. The Speaker assured that all inputs and recommendations from stakeholders would be duly considered before the bill is enacted.

Representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Sharia Court, Police, and Bureau of Religious Affairs attended the hearing, praising the House for initiating the bill and offering suggestions for its improvement.

The public hearing underscores the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive governance and its proactive approach to addressing societal and religious matters in Niger State.
