The Bauchi State Government has received recommendations for the creation of 13 new emirates, two chiefdoms, and 113 districts across the state, aimed at promoting inclusiveness, equity, and effective governance.
The proposals were submitted on Friday to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed at the Government House, Bauchi, by the Chairman of the Committee on the Creation of Additional Emirates, Chiefdoms, and Districts, Hamza Koshe Akuyam.
Akuyam revealed that the committee based its recommendations on 196 memoranda from communities across the state—17 seeking new emirates, 166 for districts, and others for chiefdoms. He explained that each request was evaluated on historical, cultural, and administrative merits.
“The Committee recommends the creation of thirteen additional emirates, two chiefdoms, and 111 districts in Bauchi State. Only the most deserving cases were selected after careful scrutiny of more than 100 petitions,” Akuyam said.
Governor Mohammed commended the committee’s work, describing it as a “transparent and painstaking exercise.” He said the reforms align with his administration’s vision to “unbundle Bauchi” for improved governance, curb ungoverned spaces, and foster a sense of belonging among communities.
While acknowledging that the changes could unsettle some traditional rulers, the governor assured that the reforms would preserve the dignity of existing institutions while expanding leadership opportunities. He added that the report would be forwarded to the State House of Assembly “directly and intact” for legislative action.
The governor urged lawmakers to act impartially, free from political, ethnic, or religious influence, emphasizing that the collective interest of the people should be paramount.
The committee, inaugurated on July 4, 2025, was mandated to review community requests and ensure the creation of structures that promote justice, inclusiveness, and peaceful coexistence across the state.
