Ambush in Ile-Ife: Three Killed, Arms Recovered as Osun Amotekun Clashes with Hoodlums
Three people have been killed and firearms recovered following a deadly ambush on operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, in Akinlalu, Ile-Ife.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, September 30, when four operatives were dispatched from the Ile-Ife command to respond to reports of bandits invading farmlands in the community.
According to the corps, the team was ambushed en route, and two service rifles were seized by the assailants. Reinforcement operatives were later deployed and attempted a peaceful approach, including a visit to the town’s traditional ruler.
At a T-junction leading into Akinlalu, however, the assailants had barricaded the road and opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted over an hour. The confrontation left three people dead, including suspected attackers. Three suspects were arrested, while several others sustained injuries and fled.
A follow-up operation led to the recovery of the stolen rifles, along with force uniforms and berets used by the hoodlums to impersonate security agents.
High Chief Dr Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, condemned the ambush, promising intensified efforts against criminals in the state.
Speaking to journalists, the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, said, “Our operatives remain undeterred in ensuring the safety of Osun communities. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with accurate information to help bring criminals to justice.”
The Osun Amotekun Corps has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and maintaining peace across the state.
