Ex-Nasarawa Deputy Governor, Solomon Ewuga, Dies at 70

Former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor and ex-Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Solomon Sunday Aku Ewuga, is dead. He passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after a period of ill health, a family source confirmed. He was 70.

Ewuga, a prominent political figure from Nasarawa State’s North Senatorial District, also served as a senator in the 7th National Assembly and was a respected lawyer. Before his senatorial tenure, he held the office of Deputy Governor under former Governor Abdullahi Adamu.

Confirming the death on social media, human rights lawyer and former National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, who studied with Ewuga at the Nigerian Law School, described him as a “friend, big brother, and thoughtful counsel.” Odinkalu wrote, “Senator Solomon Ewuga, mate from Law School, now a mate of the Angels. Rest in power, my brother, and thank you for doing your best while you had it in you.”

Ewuga’s political journey included a recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2023, marking another chapter in his long-standing public service career.

Early Life and Education

Born on June 19, 1955, into the Eggon ethnic group of Nasarawa State, Ewuga attended St. Joseph’s College, St. Louis College, Akwanga, and Jos for his secondary education. He studied Political Science at the University of Ibadan (Jos Campus), earning a Bachelor of Science degree.

He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Stockholm University, Sweden, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Jos. Ewuga was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.

Career and Legacy

After his call to the Bar, Ewuga established the law firm Solomon Ewuga & Associates. He also chaired Dilimi Investments Limited and served as CEO of Adpure Limited.

In 2022, tragedy struck the Ewuga family when his daughter, Adzuayi, a pilot, died in a plane crash in Central Cameroon.

Senator Ewuga’s death is the latest in a series of losses among prominent Nigerian politicians, following the passing of former PDP national chairperson Audu Ogbeh.
