Unity of Yoruba Obas Key to Progress Say Ladoja,Ooni

Unity of Yoruba Obas Key to Progress, Say Ladoja, Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, have underscored the importance of unity among Yoruba traditional rulers as a key driver for development in Yorubaland.

They stressed that cohesive leadership among monarchs would not only strengthen the cultural institution but also enhance the region’s influence in national affairs.

Oba Ladoja, while receiving Oba Ogunwusi and his entourage at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Sunday, said the Ooni of Ife plays a pivotal role in fostering harmony among the Obas.

He stated, “If we all come together, align our ideas, and work with the guidance of His Imperial Majesty, we will achieve our objectives. By God’s grace, our President, Bola Tinubu, who is a son of this land, has assured me of his presence at my coronation on Friday, 26th September 2025.

“Governance experience differs from political maneuvering. I lack the depth of experience that the Ooni possesses after ten years on the throne. His wisdom will guide me and other traditional rulers as we work towards unity in Yorubaland. This unity must start at the traditional leadership level, because a united front cannot be manipulated by politicians.”

Oba Ladoja further called on Mogajis (compound heads) and Baales to ensure peace and order within their domains. He warned against the toleration of criminal activities and land grab practices by individuals seeking to exploit foreigners.

“Your roles as Mogajis and Baales come with the responsibility to maintain peace. Any acts of indiscipline in Ibadanland will be addressed firmly. Collaboration with all levels of government is essential to sustaining harmony in our communities,” he said.

In his address, the Ooni of Ife lauded Oba Ladoja’s previous leadership as governor and senator, noting that his wealth of experience would benefit his reign as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“Oba Ladoja’s exemplary leadership qualities will guide him in this new role. Ibadan is expected to host high-profile guests during the coronation, and I urge all residents to extend the hospitality the city is renowned for. Baba cannot succeed alone; he needs our collective support as monarchs and indigenes,” the Ooni said, praying for long life and good health for the Olubadan-designate.
