Kwara Govt Pledges Fair Compensation, Job Opportunities for Smart City Project Communities

The Kwara State Government has assured communities affected by the proposed Kwara Smart City project of fair compensation, protection of cultural heritage, and creation of employment opportunities.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, during a meeting with a delegation from Alalubosa community in Ilorin East Local Government Area, led by the Baale, Alhaji Sakariyau Shonibare.

According to a statement issued by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Kunle Gbadeyan, the meeting addressed concerns raised by the community and investors regarding the project.

Dr. Ogunsola said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was personally monitoring activities to ensure the project aligned with global best practices. “The initiative aims not only to preserve cultural heritage but also to enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of affected communities,” he said.

The commissioner assured that potential job losses would be mitigated, noting that the project would create hundreds of job opportunities from inception to completion. He appealed to residents for cooperation to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaja Risikat Abdulazeez, praised the community for constructive engagement and assured that the government would ensure the benefits of the project reached residents.

Meanwhile, the Deed Registrar of the Kwara State Geographical Information Service, Mallam Nuhu Yusuf, said the government would preserve historical landmarks and cultural sites identified in the smart city plan.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Dr. Babatunde Saka described the meeting as a reflection of the government’s transparency and accessibility, and prayed for the success of the AbdulRazaq administration. Investors also urged the government to accommodate the specific needs of their businesses in the project design.

The Kwara Smart City project is part of the state’s broader vision to modernize urban infrastructure while ensuring social inclusion and economic empowerment.
