Oyo Police Arrest Cleric over Suspected Human Flesh
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, identified only as Alfa Bashiru, following the discovery of suspected human flesh in his possession.
CSP Adewale Osifeso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that a Federal Highway Patrol team intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG at the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan Expressway at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, where the cleric was reportedly traveling.
According to Osifeso, Bashiru claimed he purchased the suspected human flesh in Lagos. The suspect has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Iyaganku for further investigation. The item is currently undergoing forensic analysis to verify its authenticity and origin.
In a related development, police operatives recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX during a routine Search and Stop Operation. The driver reportedly fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities have taken custody of the car and are calling on members of the public with legitimate claims to provide verifiable documentation.
CSP Osifeso emphasized that such Stop and Search operations are deliberate measures to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents and travelers across the state. He added that the police remain committed to sustaining security efforts under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna.
