Labour Party Dismisses Peter Obi’s 2027 Ambitions — Arabambi
Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has ruled out former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s chance of clinching the party’s ticket for the 2027 elections.
Obi had recently urged his supporters to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the August by-elections, though he has not formally joined the party. The LP described Obi’s move as false and anti-party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, Arabambi insisted the party can thrive without Obi, stressing that the momentum of 2023 was driven more by the #EndSARS movement and public dissatisfaction with the Buhari administration than by Obi’s personal influence.
“We are going into 2027 without Peter Obi; he will not have our ticket. Our focus is to remove elements of political extremism from our ranks. Now that some of them are moving to ADC, we wish them well. Obi has one leg in Labour Party, one in PDP, and one in ADC,” Arabambi said.
He challenged Obi to formally announce his exit from Labour Party.
“If he truly believes he can command seven million votes in 2027 on his own, he should declare his departure. The 2023 momentum wasn’t because of Obi, but because Nigerians were fed up with Buhari’s administration. Obi merely used Labour Party as a vehicle for change and rose opportunely to its leadership,” he added.
