INEC Redeploys Osun REC Agboke to Ondo Ahead of Governorship Poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission has redeployed the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mutiu Agboke, to Ondo State as preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship election in Osun.
Agboke disclosed the development in a message circulated late Wednesday on the official Osun INEC WhatsApp platform, where he expressed appreciation to stakeholders for the support he received during his tenure in the state.
“I have been transferred to Ondo State. I sincerely appreciate the support extended to me throughout my stay in Osun. May Almighty God continue to uphold you all,” he said.
His redeployment comes at a crucial period when electoral activities are gradually gathering pace ahead of the forthcoming governorship contest in Osun.
In one of his final official engagements before the transfer, Agboke met with election stakeholders drawn from Ife North, Ife Central, Ife East, Atakunmosa West, Ilesa East and Ilesa West local government areas, where he reiterated that the suspension of voter revalidation was a directive from INEC headquarters and remains in force.
He stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a credible electoral process, noting that the engagement was aimed at strengthening confidence, encouraging dialogue and identifying possible challenges that could affect smooth conduct of the election.
Participants at the meeting reportedly raised concerns over voter apathy, logistics and security, urging the commission to address the issues ahead of the poll.
