NAF Intensifies Recovery Efforts at Crashed Aircraft Site in Ondo
The Nigerian Air Force has intensified efforts to recover the wreckage of its crashed ATR 42-500 aircraft, NAF 931, at Igbokoda, Ondo State, with ongoing operations focused on removing water from the site and stabilising the surrounding embankment.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the recovery team for its resilience and professionalism, reaffirming the Air Force’s commitment to completing the operation safely while supporting the ongoing aircraft accident investigation.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the recovery operation has required sustained engineering work and dewatering efforts under challenging conditions, highlighting the scale and complexity of the task.
It said continuous pumping had significantly reduced the water level at the site, with the team working to remove most of the remaining water, subject to prevailing conditions.
The statement added that workers were reinforcing the embankment with sandbags to prevent collapse and maintain stability as dewatering continued.
The NAF also commended the dedication of recovery personnel and partner agencies, particularly Hitech Construction Company, for its support of the operation.
The Air Force expressed sympathy for the families of those who died in the crash, acknowledging the pain and anguish caused by the tragedy.
It also appreciated the patience and cooperation of the Igbokoda community and the continued support of other stakeholders as recovery efforts progress.
