PDP Engages INEC Over Omission Of Adebutu, Pantami From 2027 Governorship List
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resolve the omission of its governorship candidates in Ogun and Gombe states from the commission’s final list for the 2027 elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, assuring affected candidates and supporters that efforts were underway to address the issue in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines.
Mohammed said the party was treating the development with the seriousness it deserved and seeking an amicable resolution through its engagement with the electoral commission.
“The party wishes to assure all affected candidates, members and supporters that it is already engaging with INEC to address the issues responsible for the omissions, with a view to securing an amicable resolution in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines,” the statement read.
The PDP added that it would communicate further developments as appropriate and ensure that all legitimate concerns were addressed.
“The PDP, therefore, assures all concerned that it is treating this development with the utmost seriousness it deserves and will communicate further developments as appropriate. The party is committed to ensuring that all legitimate concerns are properly addressed with the commission,” it said.
The party also urged affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm, exercise patience and avoid actions or statements that could undermine the ongoing discussions.
The development followed INEC’s release on Saturday of its final list of candidates for the February 6, 2027, governorship elections, which excluded the PDP from the lists for Ogun and Gombe states.
The lists, signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, and published on the commission’s website, contain 13 governorship candidates in Ogun State and 16 in Gombe State, with no PDP candidate appearing in either list.
Among those omitted were Ladi Adebutu, the party’s candidate in Ogun State, and Isa Ali Pantami, its candidate in Gombe State.
The PDP’s engagement with INEC is aimed at resolving the omissions as the parties prepare for the 2027 governorship elections.
