Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he would not go back on his word.

Adeleke spoke on Sunday in Osogbo while receiving the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, and other prominent party members who paid him a courtesy visit at the Osun Government House.

The governor recalled his earlier commitment to support Tinubu’s preferred candidates for the principal positions of the National Assembly, saying he kept his promise despite concerns that some lawmakers from Osun State were backing a different candidate.

Adeleke said his decision was also influenced by Tinubu’s gesture of empathy after the state government’s account was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shortly before the August 15 governorship election.

He said his endorsement of Tinubu was not mere political manoeuvring, stressing that he does not make empty promises.

“A lot of people thought it was politicking when I endorsed Mr President. From day one, during the election of the principal officer of the National Assembly, everybody was going in different directions.

“I don’t make empty promises; I don’t play games. That is not me, because I have the fear of God,” Adeleke said.

The governor also called on political stakeholders in Osun State to put aside their differences and work together for the development of the state.

Speaking after the meeting, Basiru said the APC was ready to work with Adeleke and the ruling Accord Party to deliver massive support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He congratulated Adeleke on his victory in the governorship election and thanked him for his support during the burial of his mother, Alhaja Sidikatu Basiru.

Basiru said Adeleke had not only endorsed Tinubu but had also promised to actively campaign for the President ahead of the election.

He projected that the collaboration between the Accord Party and APC could deliver about 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in Osun State.

“The governor, as I also said, not only endorsed, he will also be on the field to campaign vigorously for President Bola Tinubu,” Basiru said.

He urged APC members and other residents of the state to close ranks, embrace peace and work together to secure victory for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
