Kwara Govt Donates Materials to Correctional Service for Inmate Rehabilitation
The Kwara State Government has donated essential materials worth millions of naira to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kwara State Command, to support inmate welfare and rehabilitation.
The items, including computers, vocational training materials, mattresses and toiletries, were presented to the command at its headquarters in Ilorin on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government.
The Permanent Secretary, General Services, Abdulganiyu Yitta, who represented the SSG, said the intervention was aimed at supporting the Correctional Service in effectively carrying out its mandate.
Yitta said the state government recognised the critical role of the service in addressing social misconduct and rehabilitating inmates, particularly young people.
“The administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recognises the service and the critical role it is playing in transforming the state into a socially responsible society,” he said.
He added that the donation was part of the government’s continued support for the command and would help improve its operations and rehabilitation programmes.
Yitta commended the management and officers of the command for their dedication to duty and urged them to ensure the judicious use of the donated items.
He also assured the command of the state government’s continued support towards inmate rehabilitation and efforts to build a safer society.
Receiving the materials, the Kwara State Controller of Corrections, Femi Tolorunlagba, commended the government for responding to the command’s request.
Tolorunlagba said the intervention would help alleviate some of the challenges confronting inmates.
“This kind gesture will go a long way in relieving the burden experienced by the inmates,” he said.
